ReplyDeleteOne just compared SUGAR RUSH to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, which is a huge compliment. I've never actually watched BUFFY, or TWILIGHT, or any of the vampire movies or shows. I've read several novels by Jacqueline Lichtenberg, because of the alien vampires and the scientific angle, but I've never actually been into vampires. What started this story was I looked at the Paranormal craze in the Young Adult genre and asked,
"What if a complete geek-girl, a certified Trekkie, ran into a vampire?"
I should add that I have read a lot of what readers have said about BUFFY, so it's possible I picked up on it through distant osmosis, I suppose. I always liked the idea of the stereotypical weakling chick turning out to be the one who kicks monster-butt in the end.
I do read a lot of what readers have to say across the Blogosphere, whether I'm interested in what they're actually reading or not. It's been very educational in many ways. I think it really helps to keep Readers vividly in mind when creating a story. Otherwise, I might as well go back to writing for my own amusement again.
