Second Annual Out of this World Blog Tour

Calling all Brigaders! I'm currently organizing the second annual Out of this World Blog Tour, and I would love to personally invite my fellow SFR Brigade members to hop on board. Last year was a lot of fun, and with your help this year can be just as great!

If you have a book you are currently promoting, e-mail me at Lisa_Lane@cerebralwriter.com with the following information:

* Title of your book
* JPG of your cover
* Your website/blog title and URL
* Specific genre and romance/spice level (i.e. "sweet space opera")
* Short bio

I will ask that each participant host one guest author and also write one guest blog (500-1000 words about some subject pertaining to your books story, theme, etc.), as well as promote the tour via social networks.

Thanks, all!

12.21.12

I have Killian McRae on my Blog today, talking about her research for this amazing novel - if you get a moment, please stop by and leave a comment.  Everyone who comments on her Blog tour will be entered in a draw to win a $20 Amazon Gift Card.

(You can also read my review of her Book, posted yesterday)

SFRBrigader touring the blogs

Fellow SFRBrigader, Sara Creasy has spent the last couple of weeks touring various blogs to promote her latest release, CHILDREN OF SCARABAEUS.

Today it's my turn to host her. Come along and say hi to Sara and comment to go into the draw for a copy of CHILDREN OF SCARABAEUS.

Blog Hoppin'

Our very talented band of writers offers up a pool of blogs at least a hundred strong, and perusing the many articles can be both amusing and thought-provoking. Just a few are listed on the Bases of Operation on the sidebar, in order of newest to oldest post.

Here's just a smattering of posts in the last 48 hours, a virtual sampler platter:

Barbara Elsborg blogs on The Power of Love
What makes you sigh?  What makes you cry?  What movies have summoned your deepest emotions?  This talented author shares her feelings on the most powerful force in the galaxy.

Spacefreighters Lounge blogs on The Tomboys of Romance
In my years talking to a variety of SFR writers and authors, I've noticed a definite pattern emerging.  Do you fit the profile of The Tomboys of Romance?

Shelley Munro's Taste of Kiwi blog The Case of the Mysterious Ears
The universe is a strange place with all sorts of unexplained mysteries.  This is a case in point, though it's much more cute and amusing than disturbing.  (By the way, Shelley has a warning at the top of her blog:  "An Unladylike Topic Ahead."  I'm betting Shelley just might fit the Tomboys of Romance profile.)

Misa Buckley posts Twenty Five Years On
Like many Brigaders have done since yesterday, Misa offers a tribute to the Challenger crew.

If  you're a Brigader, we'd be happy to add your blog to the Bases of Operation listing.  Just drop me an email at Lgreen2162 (at) aol (dot) com--in the usual email format--with a link to your blog and "Add to BoO". (Note: Not all blog addresses are compatible with the gadget, but we've found that most are.)

Hailing On All Frequencies (for the last time)!

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Angry Robot will be opening their doors to unsolicited manuscripts in the month of March 2011.

And this is what they are looking for:
We’re publishing novels, either standalone or as part of greater series. We’re not looking to publish your novellas, short stories or non-fiction at this time.

All our books are “genre” fiction in one way or another — specifically fantasy, science fiction, horror, and that new catch-all urban or modern fantasy. Those are quite wide-ranging in themselves; we’re looking for all types of sub-genre, so for example, hard SF, space opera, cyberpunk, military SF, alternate future history, future crime, time travel, and more. We have no problem if your book mashes together two or more of these genres; in fact, we practically insist upon it.

Our books will be published in all English-language territories — notably the UK, US and Australia — so we’ll be buying rights to cover all those. If you are only offering rights in one territory, we will not be able to deal with you. We will be able to offer e-book and audio versions as standard too, plus limited edition and multiple physical formats where appropriate. We are not contracting any work-for-hire titles; we offer advances and royalties.

Beyond all of this, what we’re really looking for in your writing is this:
• A “voice”, that comes from…
• Confident writing
• Pacy writing
• Characters that live, have real relationships and emotions, even in extreme situations
• A sense of vision, a rounded universe that lives and breathes
• Clever construction, good plotting, a couple of surprises even for us jaded old read-it-alls
• Heightened experience – an intensity, extremity or just a way of treating plot or situation in a way we’ve not come across before.

Here's the link for details.

REMINDER: HOAF news! (last for 2010)

After the 27th I'm signing off as your Comms Officer!

INFORMATION OF INTEREST
From the Irene Goodman Agency website. Might be of interest to some of you:

"Irene Goodman will be conducting a live webinar on Thursday, December 16th, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on How an Agent Picks a Client: From Query to Career.

This event will give you an inside look at exactly what goes through an agent’s mind through each step of the submission process when  making this all-important decision. And with this peek inside an agent’s mind, writers will see what makes a query letter stand out, what makes an agent request sample pages or a book proposal, and how agents evaluate single titles vs. a book series.

In addition to instructing, Irene Goodman will be taking questions live during the webinar. No question goes unanswered."

Here is the registration link.

"All registrants are invited to submit either a query letter or the first page of a manuscript (300 words or fewer for each) immediately after the event. All submissions will receive a critique from the instructor. (All the instructor's funds will be donated to charity—specifically: the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the Deafness Research Foundation.)"
